Moving to New Orleans? Some things to consider…

February 9, 2009 – 11:27 am

Where do you live when you want the excitement of a big city, but the intimacy of a small community? What if you want to work in the hustle and bustle of a downtown environment but also want to enjoy nature? Is having it all too much to ask?

Well, if you’re moving to the New Orleans area and want it all, consider living in a suburb such as River Ridge, Harahan or Metairie. These three areas provide affordable shopping and fun activities of their own, while Interstate 10 and the Earhart Expressway offer quick and easy access to New Orleans’ nightlife and family attractions. “River Ridge is minutes from the New Orleans business district, our world famous French Quarter, the Louisiana Superdome and the Louis Armstrong International Airport,” says Susan Spears, Property Manager for Citrus Creek East in River Ridge.

To paint a better picture of what it means to have it all, here’s a weekend in the life a River Ridge couple:

Saturday, 9am-noon: They ride their bikes to the levy and bicycle along the Mississippi River.

Noon-1pm: They stop at home for a shower and then it’s off to do a couple hours of shopping at the Lakeside Shopping Center a few minutes away. (One of Louisiana’s most exciting retail malls with over 120 stores)

3:00-4:30pm: When they get back to their small apartment community, they see friends having an impromptu pool party, so they stop by and hang with the neighbors for a while.

5:30pm: Refreshed and dressed for a night on the town, they hop into the cab and arrive in New Orleans historic French Quarter only 15 minutes later.

5:45pm-midnight: Dinner, dancing and drinks in the French Quarter.

Midnight: A short ride back home to River Ridge.

Sunday, 8:00-9:00am: They take a walk through the small apartment community, stopping to read the Sunday paper by the pool.

10:00am: She’s meeting her friends for brunch down the street then taking her niece to the Audubon Zoo for the day. He’s meeting up with the guys to tailgate and then watch the New Orleans Saints game at the Superdome.

5:00pm: She stops to pick up a movie on the way home. He stops to get take out. They sit down with their dinner and movie and relax in their cozy apartment after a full and enjoyable weekend.

For the person who wants the excitement of the big city and the pleasures, securities and comforts of a beautiful neighborhood, consider an apartment in one of New Orleans’ delightful suburbs.
