New Orleans Area Apartment Renters Can Stay Fit with Free, Onsite Gyms

August 16, 2010 – 10:15 am

Getting to the gym is never easy, especially if you have a busy day at work and home. Excuses pile up and soon you find days or weeks slipping by without lacing up your running shoes. Many people say that the distance from home and monthly fees are two main reasons they decide not to join a gym or don’t keep up with their workouts. Living in a luxurious apartment community with an on-site fitness center that is open 24 hours a day can eliminate the excuses of convenience and cost.

New Orleans area apartment communities like the Lakes of Chateau and Citrus Creek are equipped with luxurious on-site fitness centers that simplify your workout commitments and daily schedule.

Gyms are often equippped with:

  • Elliptical machines
  • Treadmills
  • Stationary bikes
  • Weight stations
  • Brightly-lit tennis courts
  • Outdoor exercise paths

All of this offers each renter with a variety of exercise options to suit an array of lifestyles and workout goals. As just one of the many amenities included in rental fees, there is no need to worry about the piling expense of a monthly gym membership. Whether you have long-term weight loss plans or simply want to walk the dog after a long day at work, finding time for your workout can be as easy as coming home.

Back to School – Student Supply Upgraded

August 3, 2010 – 10:56 am

It’s that time of year again, back to school! Among shopping for the right supplies, and books, many college students are seeking out a place to live as opposed to living in the on campus dorms. If you’ve ever lived in a dorm, especially those with a communal bathroom, you can understand the push to live in an apartment, if you can afford it. Many times property move-in costs such as deposits and other fees, can be too much for college students and their parents.  Also, many communities make the application process so complicated, a starter apartment is just a rite of passage buried in red tape.

There are communities out there who understand this process is difficult and have put programs in place to not only entice renters but to actually help students build rental history and get out of the dorms.  1st Lake Properties not only offers an easier process for both individual students, but also roommates.  1st Lake has lowered and lowers moving costs for college students every year.

This year 1st Lake Properties has decided to add a little excitement to the move by offering new student residents  a Free iPad along with the discounted move in fees.  View qualifications at the official Student Page on 1stlake.com or by clicking here.

BY: The Associated Press

NEW YORK — New Orleans is back in Travel + Leisure magazine’s top 10 cities list for the first time since Hurricane Katrina devastated the city and its tourism industry.

New Orleans took the No. 7 spot in the category of top cities in United States and Canada, part of the magazine’s annual World’s Best Awards. The 2010 awards were announced today.

New Orleans was last named to the list in the No. 10 spot in July 2005. The city has steadily rebuilt and revitalized its tourism industry in the past few years.

New York took the No. 1 spot on the U.S. and Canada cities list, followed by San Francisco; Charleston, S.C.; Chicago; Santa Fe, N.M.; Vancouver, British Columbia; New Orleans; Quebec City, Quebec; Victoria, British Columbia; and Washington D.C.

The full World’s Best Awards list will appear in Travel + Leisure’s August issue, which is available on newsstands July 23. It can also be seen online at www.travelandleisure.com/worldsbest.

Winners for Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards were determined using results of a questionnaire made available to Travel + Leisure readers online, and through invitations in the January, February and March issues of the magazine. More than 16,000 readers participated.

Planning Ahead During Your Move Can Save You Headaches

July 7, 2010 – 10:48 am

Moving in itself is a tough undertaking. And like most daunting projects, moving to a new apartment can be a lot more manageable if you do some planning first. Here are some tips to keep in mind as you plan your next move.

More to Move

Many people expect their move to be pretty much exactly like their last one. The problem is, you’ve probably accumulated much more in the time spent in your current home, and haven’t really accounted for that. Take your new possessions and the amount of space and time needed to pack them into consideration. Also, if you own a pet, you’ll need to factor in how to keep your pet occupied and comfortable during the move, and how to get your pet acquainted with the new apartment and surroundings.  If you have a dog, take the time to survey the area around your new apartment to see where you might take him or her for a walk.

Money to Move

Moving can be a very financially stressful time. You’ll have to deal with deposits and, potentially, the cost of having to rent a truck or professional movers. If you’re on a shoestring budget during your move, try to have friends help out with the heavy lifting. Also, a friend with a truck that can haul many of your bigger items is ideal. While this may save you a pretty penny on moving expenses, it’s also important to realize having friends help will take much more time than having a rental truck and professional movers, so plan your time wisely.

If you’re leaving an apartment, don’t forget to factor in the time and money needed to clean up the apartment enough to get your security deposit back.  Having extra money in your pocket can be a huge weight off your shoulders, especially if you’re having to pay up for a deposit on a new apartment. Sometimes these fees can be hefty, especially with private owners.  Some management companies have lowered move in costs to ease the strain of moving, like 1st Lake Properties, who offer deposits starting at $250 and maxing at $400, with additional deposits for pets having payment plan options. Again, these fees may account for the bulk of your moving expenses and comparing and saving on these costs could allow for a better moving process.

Cleaning Up Costs

Simple items like trash bags, household cleaner, paper towels, dusters, vacuums, and mops are probably already in your home. If they aren’t, make room in your moving budget for them so you can properly clean your residence before moving out. It may also be helpful to schedule a walk-through with your outgoing landlord.

Walk the Moving Route

You’ll probably want to take the time to walk through with your new landlord, or apartment manager, documenting problems that exist prior to your moving in. Also see if the layout of the new apartment community will require extra help when moving in.  If your apartment is very far from the stairs, renting a dolly can make moving your heavy items much easier, faster, and possibly spare you physical injury.

It’s never too early to start planning your move. As soon as you have your new location decided, start planning a course of action and take the time to map out the financial aspect of moving. Compare rates, deposits, and other fees. A couple hours’ worth of planning before you’re up against the moving deadline can help make the apartment move easier later on.
